Some Perspective On The Real-Life Market Mania

A report from DS News. “Nearly every metro area in America is experiencing peak seriously delinquent mortgage loans, according to a report from Nationwide economics. Levels are approaching the severity of the 2010 housing bust, economists say. ‘The spike in mortgage delinquencies would normally have had a significantly negative impact, but delinquencies in the current environment should not be viewed as they have been in the past due to government policy changes,’ said Nationwide Chief Economist David Berson.”

The Puget Sound Business Journal in Washington. “It’s been nearly nine months since Gov. Jay Inslee put a moratorium on apartment evictions. But it has put landlords like Robert Akhtar in a bind. Tenants at his 18-unit Angle Crest Apartments in SeaTac were $91,686 behind in rent, leaving him unable to pay his overdue $15,000 property tax bill, thousands in utility fees and some $42,500 on his mortgage.”

“Akhtar said he never imagined he would ever struggle to pay his mortgage and taxes. He worries about the damage to his credit rating. ‘We have obligations,’ he said. “The government should start looking at ways of helping us, otherwise our property will be foreclosed. We can’t do that.'”

From Spectrum News 1 on California. “Jacqueline Thompson is in danger of losing the home she grew up in. It’s a saga she said began after her father was diagnosed with cancer. The home went into foreclosure in 2017, and she was told about a nonprofit organization called Phil Anthropy House. They promised to buy the home and she would pay rent for a year, with the promise they would sell the house back. However, Thompson said that was never contractually written.”

“‘The treasurer and tax collector sent taxes to the house, and it’s under the name of Phil Anthropy House,’ she said. ‘We found out that the property was in default $29,000.’ Phil Anthropy House is no longer in operation. Their attorney said it is because they helped save so many homes from foreclosure, with many of them going into default, thereby causing them to run out of funds.”

The Wall Street Journal on California. “After over five years on and off the market, the longtime Los Angeles home of television writer and producer Norman Lear is finally in contract. The sales price is close to the home’s most recent asking price of $27.995 million—but less than half of its original listing price, according to a person familiar with the deal.”

From Socket Site on California. “As we outlined last month: Purchased for $2.6 million in August of 2014 and then completely remodeled, the 2,400-square-foot, single-family home at 3020 Scott Street sold for $4.255 million in August of 2018. And having returned to the market priced at $3.98 million in June, reduced to $3.68 million in September and then dropped to ‘$3.38 million’ two weeks ago, a sale at which would be considered to be ‘at asking’ according to all industry stats, the Cow Hollow home is now in contract.”

“And while the Case-Shiller index for Bay Area single-family home values is up 4.0 percent over the same period of time, and the oft quoted ‘median sale price’ is up as well, the re-sale of 3020 Scott Street has just closed escrow with a contract price of $3,188,888, down 25 percent on an apples-to-apples basis.”

From Curbed New York. “New York State Democrats are again pushing for a ‘pied-à-terre tax’ on second homes in the city — causing everyone in real estate to freak out. The proposed annual tax on second-home condos and co-ops with an assessed value of $300,000 or more would bring in $390 million annually, according to the Independent Budget Office. But the bill isn’t quite the blanket tax-the-rich measure it would appear to the casual observer: What it would actually do is tax those never-slept-in superluxury properties selling for $5 million or more, and not the Lincoln Center–adjacent studio where your suburban aunt and uncle stay after catching a play. Really what it needs is a better name — call it the Oligarch Tax.”

“The ongoing deflation of one the most overheated housing markets in the world is not necessarily a bad thing for would-be buyers, and when the pandemic passes, the market is almost sure to recover. And if an extra property tax on extremely wealthy globe-trotters (who contribute to the city’s affordability crisis) prompts them to sell the staggering apartment in a gigantic skinny tower at a loss — well, that’s just more available inventory for people who actually live here.”

From Yahoo Finance. “Airbnb and DoorDash will have to come out of the gate blasting financially as public companies, given the borderline insane valuations giddy investors afforded both on their respective IPO days. Airbnb finally opened for trading Thursday at $146 a share, dusting the initial public offering price of $68. The opening trade on Airbnb valued the company at $101.6 billion. For some perspective on the real-life market mania, that’s more than the combined market caps for Airbnb’s established rivals Marriott, Hilton and Hyatt of $80 billion. That’s more than the $62 billion market for 112-year-old auto giant General Motors.”

The Wall Street Journal. “In the dozen years since it was founded, Airbnb Inc. has moved into hundreds of U.S. cities, transforming many of them into vacation-rental meccas. In response, residents across the country have ratcheted up grass-roots efforts aimed at keeping authority over short-term rentals in the hands of towns and cities. In Arizona, the one state that passed a law removing the authority of cities to police short-term rentals, at least two state lawmakers are aiming for bills next year to counter the 2016 law.”

“The law was sold to the legislature as ‘an old couple making a few extra bucks by renting their spare bedroom,’ said John Kavanagh, the only state senator to vote against it at the time. ‘That’s not what ended up happening.'”

“Investors poured into affluent neighborhoods like Paradise Valley, Ariz., a suburb of Phoenix, where they snapped up townhouses to rent on Airbnb, Mayor Jerry Bien-Willner said. Data compiled for the city show that 94% of short-term rental listings in Paradise Valley are stand-alone houses without owners living on-site.”

“Tensions grew, Mr. Bien-Willner said, after a flurry of complaints from neighbors over noisy house parties and crime at the short-term rentals. Cities can do little because they have no say over leasing the properties, he said. Some Arizonans complained their homes declined in value because no one but investors wanted to buy a house next to a short-term rental, according to Mr. Bien-Willner. ‘You don’t know your neighbors anymore,’ he said.”

“In Scottsdale, Ariz., Marjorie Pennock woke up to the sound of gunfire in mid-October, she said. A group of partygoers at the short-term rental property next door drew weapons and fired. One person was shot in the arm. Five homes were struck in the crossfire, according to a police report, and more than 100 shell casings were recovered outside Ms. Pennock’s home. ‘I’m in my bedroom thinking I’m going to die,’ she said.”

From KTTH on Oregon. “The family behind the Red House Autonomous Zone in North Portland owns a second home just two miles away. Even more disturbing is that Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler’s office is negotiating with the new homeowner. The goal is to come to a compromise, which would appease the criminal activists. It’s the latest twists in a bizarre, dangerous, and absurd story.”

“While the news of a second home should change the narrative from the Antifa agitators and other criminal agitators who are holding a neighborhood hostage, it likely won’t. When dealing with fringe activists, they seldom let facts get in the way of their narrative. As for Wheeler’s involvement, it’s another reminder that he’s a feckless coward.”

“The so-called Red House was foreclosed in 2018 after failure to pay their mortgage. Since then, they’ve been living in the home illegally and causing all sorts of criminal problems for the neighborhood. The narrative was set by Antifa and other criminal agitators: the Black and Indigenous family is a victim of gentrification and will be rendered homeless in the middle of a pandemic. It’s outrageous! It’s also false.”

“The Kinney Family took out a mortgage to help pay legal bills associated with then 17-year-old son William’s legal problems. After speeding through a red light, he struck a car, killing one of the occupants. Since then, he’s had some other legal issues, as the family got into a back and forth with the loan servicer.”

“Court documents reveal the Kinney family argued they believe themselves to be sovereign citizens who are not subject to the laws of Oregon or the United States. I suppose it makes sense, then, that an autonomous zone is set up to protect them from the years-long battle from the home they have no legal right to.”

“Negotiating ensures this exact scenario will unfold the next time activists want to forward a scam narrative about gentrification. Not that Wheeler learns from mistakes. After their own ‘summer of love’ in Portland, Wheeler routinely enables and empowered Antifa criminals. It’s why their criminal, deadly behavior intensified. It’s exactly what helped create an environment where an autonomous zone could be set up around the red house in the first place.”

        1. Here’s some twisted doublethink from a Counterpunch article:

Importantly, only 13 percent of registered voters surveyed indicate that they will boycott the Georgia runoffs because “the voting process is rigged.” The above findings suggest that only a small number of Republican Georgian voters believe Trump’s propaganda about rigged elections.

This is the sort of incomplete logic I’m seeing: if Republicans are still voting, then they MUST believe the elections are still fair. No other reason. But of course there’s another reason: The poll watchers will watch everything like a hawk this time. And Rs know that if they don’t vote, the Dems would win honestly. But lefties don’t want to think that hard. Nope.

  1. ‘After their own ‘summer of love’ in Portland, Wheeler routinely enables and empowered Antifa criminals. It’s why their criminal, deadly behavior intensified’

I was reading through reports of more commie stabbings and such that happened yesterday. So we’re to sit on our hands? Or do we recognize these traitors for what they are and get a rope? If you do nothing, they just become more aggressive.

    1. ‘After their own ‘summer of love’ in Portland, Wheeler routinely enables and empowered Antifa criminals. It’s why their criminal, deadly behavior intensified’

The Portland DA is a Soros plant installed to subvert justice and the rule of law, not uphold it. Ditto for all the other Soros-backed “progressives” who are coddling BLM-Antifa Communist insurrectionists and common criminals alike.

      https://www.lawofficer.com/george-soros-backed-das-are-undermining-american-justice/

    2. “So we’re to sit on our hands?”

I for one have seen enough evidence to prove that we as a country did not sit on our hands but voted against this commie behavior and gave Donald Trump a landslide victory. The hope of that being upheld died for the most part two days ago with the Supreme Court’s decision.

With what I am seeing now I believe the time for sitting on hands may very well be quickly coming to an end.

        1. If you swore an oath to defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic, that bill has just come due.

      1. Lest anyone suggest the idea of hanging traitors is extreme, let me point out it’s the idea of denying us our constitutional rights that’s extreme. They are making proposals they know we will not accept, therefore they are choosing this fight.

Anyone talking about this great reset is a traitor and should be hung. We can’t look to the courts. Did the courts protect the Branch Davidians? To the contrary, a federal judge sent the ones who had the audacity to not be burned alive to prison, after a jury had found them not guilty. Did the courts protect us from the blatantly unconstitutional NSA spying Snowden revealed? Nope.

Whatever the means, insurrection act, martial law, we must go around this corrupt system and take our justice. And they chose this path, not us.

‘Investor and political theorist Adam Townsend asked, “Are we watching unfold is the fastest roll-up of power in human history?” It’s not a “reset” but a counter-revolution, targeting the moral and religious foundations of the country and the revolution that gave birth to it—all men, created in the image of God, are created equal. It’s not we who have drawn the battle lines.’

        https://www.theepochtimes.com/its-not-a-reset-its-a-counterrevolution_3616414.html

          1. ‘Lawyer Sidney Powell asserted that due to alleged foreign interference in the Nov. 3 election, “it’s more than sufficient to trigger” President Donald Trump’s executive order on foreign interference issued in 2018.’

‘In September 2018, Trump signed an executive order that says “not later than 45 days after the conclusion of a United States election, the Director of National Intelligence, in consultation with the heads of any other appropriate executive departments and agencies (agencies), shall conduct an assessment of any information indicating that a foreign government, or any person acting as an agent of or on behalf of a foreign government, has acted with the intent or purpose of interfering in that election,” according to the text of the order.’

‘Powell told The Epoch Times she believes that due to that executive order, it can give Trump “all kinds of power … to do everything from seize assets to freeze things, demand the impoundment of the machines,” referring to voting machines.’

“Under the emergency powers, he could even appoint a special prosecutor to look into this, which is exactly what needs to happen,” Powell added. “Every machine, every voting machine in the country should be impounded right now. There’s frankly more than enough criminal probable cause to justify that, for anybody who’s willing to address the law and the facts purely on the basis of truth and not politics, or corporate greed, or global wealth.”

‘For the past month, some, including Arizona’s Maricopa County GOP Chairwoman Linda Brickman, as well as Powell, have alleged that Dominion Voting Systems’ machines allowed for votes to be switched from Trump to Democrat candidate Joe Biden. Dominion has pushed back, saying that it’s not possible to change votes, while asserting it has no ties to foreign governments and doesn’t allow its employees to engage in vote-tabulation efforts.’

‘Powell noted that Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe has only a few days left until he is to prepare his report to the president, according to the September 2018 executive order. It’s not clear when—or if—Ratcliffe will issue the report, as no public confirmation has been given so far. Little mention has been made of the executive order since it was issued more than two years ago.’

‘Should Ratcliffe issue his order, “It’s going to blow the mind of every citizen in the country who’s willing to look at the truth and the facts,” Powell said. “Because there’s never—we’ve never witnessed anything like this in the history of this country. And it’s got to be stopped right now or there will never be a free and fair election.”

‘The order also stipulates that “within 45 days of receiving the assessment and information,” the heads of the Department of Justice and Homeland Security and “any other appropriate agencies” shall deliver a report evaluating the U.S. general election.’

‘That includes “the extent to which any foreign interference that targeted election infrastructure materially affected the security or integrity of that infrastructure, the tabulation of votes, or the timely transmission of election results; and if any foreign interference involved activities targeting the infrastructure of, or pertaining to, a political organization, campaign, or candidate, the extent to which such activities materially affected the security or integrity of that infrastructure, including by unauthorized access to, disclosure or threatened disclosure of, or alteration or falsification of, information or data,” it says.’

            https://www.theepochtimes.com/sidney-powell-trump-could-trigger-2018-executive-order-on-foreign-interference_3616680.html

          2. due to that executive order, it can give Trump “all kinds of power … to do everything from seize assets to freeze things, demand the impoundment of the machines,” referring to voting machines.’

I was just going to post this article.

          3. Please, PLEASE don’t take this the wrong way, but this isn’t going to go over well. Look at the optics. Trump issues an executive order basically granting himself the power to keep himself in office. Powell has been threatening to blow the roof off for weeks. It doesn’t matter if she’s right if no one with clout believes her. Does the Trump admin have a plan for the pushback he’s going to get?

Impound the voting machines — what if it’s too late? It took a waffling Georgia judge to prevent the Georgia from wiping theirs — I’m sure the other states have wiped theirs already.

          4. Look at the optics.

I am. He’s giving everyone from the state legislatures to the Supreme Court the opportunity to uphold our Constitution. If civilians won’t, the military will. Invoking the Insurrection Act is his last resort. It would be nice if DNI Ratcliffe dropped his assessment tonight or tomorrow morning so that the state legislatures have one last chance to change their mind. For those who don’t realize that this is 1776 v2.0, hopefully military tribunals will make them realize how close we are/were to losing our Republic.

        1. Trump has put his life, his family and his wealth on the line, with enemies coming at him from every conceivable direction. Think about that. His fate is inexorably tied to this country – if he goes down, our nation goes down. We rarely see such sacrifice in the political arena in this day and age.

Get it? He’s going to start the moves necessary to disarm the populace. You won’t be able to bury them fast enough, you can’t sell them, you can’t hide them. Best thing to do will be to hold on to them and refuse to comply. That means standing in the gap and doing what nobody wants but what must be done to keep the Republic.

More Silicon Valley Insiders Added to Biden Transition Team

    ALLUM BOKHARI
    12 Dec 2020

After an election year in which the tech giants repeatedly interfered in the election against President Donald Trump, Joe Biden is now rewarding Silicon Valley by appointing insiders to a range of roles in his transition team.

Shortly after election night, the Financial Times reported that former Google CEO Eric Schmidt is being considered to lead a key tech task force inside the White House.

As Politico recently reported, four more Google and Facebook employees have been added to Biden’s transition team.

They are : Zaid Zaid, a Facebook public policy official, Chris Upperman, a Facebook manager, Rachel Lieber, a Facebook director and associate general counsel, and Deon Scott, a Google program manager who also worked in the Obama administration’s Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

  11. Airbnb and DoorDash will have to come out of the gate blasting financially as public companies, given the borderline insane valuations giddy investors afforded both on their respective IPO days.

And Airbnb is going to make all this money in order to “come out of the gate blasting financially” how?

  12. This could get interesting. While the DoJ and FBI might turn a blind eye to links between CCP members and our political, financial, and media elites, the “weaponized autists” on the Right most certainly will not.

Major leak ‘exposes’ members and ‘lifts the lid’ on the Chinese Communist Party

    https://www.skynews.com.au/details/_6215946537001

A major leak containing a register with the details of nearly two million CCP members has occurred – exposing members who are now working all over the world, while also lifting the lid on how the party operates under Xi Jinping, says Sharri Markson. Ms Markson said the leak is a register with the details of Communist Party members, including their names, party position, birthday, national ID number and ethnicity.

“It is believed to be the first leak of its kind in the world,” the Sky News host said. “What’s amazing about this database is not just that it exposes people who are members of the communist party, and who are now living and working all over the world, from Australia to the US to the UK,” Ms Markson said.

          1. That was not my point. 😉

Hahah, yeah. Looking through that twitter stuff I couldn’t figure out how to get the correct full size file. But yeah, I expect to find my wife on the list. The reason is that every Chinese citizen in a Chinese college at some point joins the party. Not sure if it’s during the bachelor’s degree or at the end of it. But definitely by grad school. So yes, I already know my wife is a card carrying party member. But I also know that all of her peers are as well, whether they have any interest in spying for their government or not. So this is guaranteed to cause a lot of misunderstandings as people find people they know on “the list”.

  13. It’s not just Hunter’s laptop that was suppressed by the CCP/Biden boot licking media. Balding issued a report on the Biden’s dealings with the CCP with information gathered inside China.

I’ve posted links to the Balding’s World blog here before.

The week before Election Day, RedState published a series of articles about Joe Biden and Hunter Biden, based on a 64-page report from researchers who combed public records to reveal how compromised the Biden family is to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). You can read Part 1 here. The four-part series lays out deeply disturbing connections between Hunter Biden, Joe Biden, John Kerry, and the CCP.

The pro-democracy news outlet Apple Daily, based in Hong Kong, used an earlier 40-page version of the report and was the first to report on its findings. In response, NBC News launched a coordinated attack on one of the publishers of the report, Christopher Balding. This attack had all the appearances of being coordinated with the Biden campaign and it had the effect of benefiting the CCP.

  14. Besides where it’s cued up 9:48 – 12:50 sounds like current events.

She called it. She used a term I’ve never heard before. Communitarianism. That is exactly what’s happening right now with the masks. This whole thing is so sad. I’ve been researching this agenda for a long time and now to see it unfolding is absolutely horrifying. The worst part is that people are being distracted and divided so we cannot unite. I am seriously considering creating a YT channel dedicated to going to different cities and interviewing people to inform them of this Agenda.

Trump’s climate change shift is really about killing the international order

    By Amanda Erickson
    March 29, 2017 at 7:51 a.m. EDT

President Trump has done what he promised: kneecapping America’s efforts to fight climate change. In a sweeping executive order Tuesday, the president rolled back rules limiting carbon emissions and regulating fossil fuel producers.

At a 1992 conference, President George H.W. Bush and 177 other governments signed something called Agenda 21. It’s a totally voluntary United Nations “action plan” that offers suggestions for way local, state and national governments can combat poverty and pollution. It’s fairly innocuous and, again, nonbinding.

But antigovernment conservatives such as Phyllis Schlafly and Tom DeWeese latched onto the measure as a symbol of a much broader U.N.-backed conspiracy take control of America. DeWeese, whose think tank focuses on “the United Nations and its effect on American national sovereignty,” has described Agenda 21 as a “blueprint to turn your community into a little soviet.”

  15. New York Times — Vaccinated? Show Us Your App (12/13/20):

“now, just as the United States is preparing to distribute the first vaccines for the virus, the entry ticket to the nation’s reopening is set to come largely in the form of a digital health credential.

In the coming weeks, major airlines including United, JetBlue and Lufthansa plan to introduce a health passport app, called CommonPass, that aims to verify passengers’ virus test results — and soon, vaccinations. The app will then issue confirmation codes enabling passengers to board certain international flights. It is just the start of a push for digital Covid-19 credentials that could soon be embraced by employers, schools, summer camps and entertainment venues.

“This is likely to be a new normal need that we’re going to have to deal with to control and contain this pandemic,” said Dr. Brad Perkins, the chief medical officer at the Commons Project Foundation, a nonprofit in Geneva that developed the CommonPass app.”

Um, no. This is likely to be a list of businesses not to give your money to. Eurocucks may bend over for this, but those of us in the United States never will.

Stay in Geneva, Brad, with all the other Eurocucks.

    1. The time is now, brothers and sisters, for us to fight back against this tyranny. The globalists have taken it to a new level.

      1. Baby steps, for now. Stop giving them money. Do you know how easy it is to just stop giving them money? It’s too easy. So just stop. Every click to every corporate link puts a coin in their greasy (emphasis on the grease) greasy pocket of greed. F* Hollywood, f* corporate TeeVee, just remove it from your life…

      1. mask

I refuse to buy one on principal. I’ve been using one our behavioral therapy company sent out early on. Covered CA just sent 2 masks person. They’re really nice: adjustable ear loops; and, a nose wire. You just have to wear them inside out so as not to advertise for them.

      2. I thought masks worked

The masks don’t “work”. Nobody goes to the extend of wearing even a 95% mask. We all wear hankies on bungees (I know you are an exception). I have 99.98% masks for some of the shop work I do. I don’t wear them in public and neither does anyone else, because it’s merely a social courtesy to wear “something”.

        1. “The masks don’t “work”.”

The notion a thin ply of cotton and pulp paper is going to filter something that’s a fraction of a micron is a joke but the media has everyone bamboozled. Then again…. the public doesn’t do math.

Cut a slice of your wifes old nylons and keep it around your neck. It makes complying with the mask bullshit a lot easier.

  16. If I ever heard a more believable accusation I certainly cannot remember when.

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo ‘Sexually Harassed Me For Years,’ Former Staffer Claims

    by RT
    December 13th 2020, 12:48 pm

“sexually harassed” her for years while she worked in his administration, a work environment she previously described as “beyond toxic.”

“Yes, @NYGovCuomo sexually harassed me for years. Many saw it, and watched,” Boylan, who is running for Manhattan borough president in 2021, wrote in one of a series of tweets on Sunday.

“I could never anticipate what to expect: would I be grilled on my work (which was very good) or harassed about my looks. Or would it be both in the same conversation? This was the way for years,” she said.

Boylan worked for Cuomo from March 2015 to October 2018 in a variety of roles, including deputy secretary for economic development, chief of staff, and executive vice president of Empire State Development.

    1. Many saw it, and watched

Then it’s time to round up some witnesses. So tired of this he-said-she-said stuff.

      1. Ox the same thing for college students, he said she said, only solution ….You BOTH get fired/ expelled from school or you BOTH go back to class or work.

‘No bail’ just part of it: LA’s new DA totally eviscerating basic law

    https://nypost.com/2020/12/09/no-bail-just-part-of-it-las-new-da-totally-eviscerating-basic-law/

Los Angeles’ newly elected district attorney, George Gascon, has a plan for ensuring compliance with the county’s draconian stay-at-home orders: make the city so dangerous that Angelenos will be terrified to step outside.

Gascon belongs to a wave of well-funded left-wing prosecutors who have come to office promising to eliminate racial disparities in the criminal-justice system. They are doing so by eliminating key components of the criminal-justice system itself. Gascon’s office will no longer prosecute a wide range of misdemeanor offenses.

    1. And I see they are proposing to require new officers to have a bachelor’s degree or older than 25 with an associates degree.
