China’s Foreclosures Soar Amid Economic Crisis/What’s the secret behind?
    China Insights
    Premiered Feb 27, 2023
” After calculation, I would have lost about 600,000 yuan or 87,000 US dollars.”–one homeowner.
An important sign of China’s deteriorating economy is the significant increase in the number of foreclosed homes in 2022. China Index Academy says this is a historically high number.
Some people may think that those who bought multiple properties are too greedy, which has led to their tragedy today. That’s not necessarily true. In China, people’s cash on hand is insecure, shrinking due to inflation, and there are almost no safe bank products of any kind. As a result, investing savings in the hot real estate market and rising housing prices has become the hope for many Chinese to preserve and increase the value of their money.

    1. Lots of interesting twists in the China Foreclosure story. All your assets frozen if you default. Banks not allowing loan payoffs. Black vibe.

These people have no intergenerational experience with the trap of mortgage debt, until now.

  2. World’s Rich Take Advantage as $1 Trillion Property Market Craters
    Bloomberg L.P.|10 hours ago
That’s a stark contrast from institutional investors, who pared their share of the $1.1 trillion market for offices, logistics sites and rental housing as defaults start to mount from higher interest rates in an end of the easy-money era.

  3. Paul Vallas and Brandon Johnson will meet in a runoff to be the next mayor of Chicago after voters on Tuesday denied incumbent Lori Lightfoot a second term, issuing a rebuke to a leader who made history as head of the nation’s third-largest city.

Vallas, a former schools CEO backed by the police union, and Johnson, a Cook County commissioner endorsed by the Chicago Teachers Union, advanced to the April 4 runoff after none of the nine candidates was able to secure over 50% of the vote to win outright.

Lightfoot, the first Black woman and first openly gay person to lead the city, won her first term in 2019 after promising to end decades of corruption and backroom dealing at City Hall. But opponents blamed Lightfoot for an increase in crime that occured in cities across the U.S. during the pandemic and criticized her as being a divisive, overly contentious leader.

She is the first elected Chicago mayor to lose a reelection bid since 1983, when Jane Byrne, the city’s first female mayor, lost her Democratic primary.

“Regardless of tonight’s outcome, we fought the right fights and we put this city on a better path,” Lightfoot said. She told her fellow mayors around the country not to fear being bold.

  4. Former FTX Director of Engineering Nishad Singh pleaded guilty to six criminal charges in a New York court on Tuesday.

Singh, who worked with FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried at the defunct crypto exchange, was reported to have been looking for a plea deal with prosecutors last month. Singh pleaded guilty to charges including fraud and conspiracy. Reuters reported the news on Tuesday.

Bankman-Fried has been charged with 12 different counts, ranging from bank fraud to securities and commodities fraud to conspiracy to commit money laundering. He has pleaded not guilty and faces a trial this fall.

His fellow former executives Caroline Ellison, who used to helm prop trading shop Alameda Research, and Gary Wang, an FTX co-founder, have already pleaded guilty to fraud charges tied to FTX’s collapse.

In a statement, Singh’s lawyers said, “Nishad is deeply sorry for his role in this and has accepted responsibility for his actions. He wants to do everything he can to make things right for victims, including by assisting the government to the best of his ability in this case.”

  5. MediaMath seemed destined for a $1B fairy-tale exit. Instead, most early investors got nothing.

MediaMath was fated for greatness as a unicorn startup. But the adtech firm’s billion-dollar exit never happened. Early investors were left with nothing.

  6. The price of one dozen Grade AA Large eggs has collapsed here to $2.99. Bird Flu Inflation may hopefully be over.

Happy March 1st. In less than three weeks it will officially be spring.

    1. 18 packs are down from $9 to $10 to about $5. (regular store brand eggs, the cheap stuff). Guess the PTB realized people were starting to notice and as we all know, there is no noticing allowed.

In early 2021 the same 18 pack was under $2.

Isn’t it great that eggs are ONLY $5.

      1. “(regular store brand eggs, the cheap stuff)”

Yep, the cheap stuff is back on the shelf. The brown organic free-range eggs have always been available, and they’re still expensive.
