Jen Shah of ‘Real Housewives’ gets 6 1/2-year prison term
At the outset of Friday’s hearing, Stein cautioned a courtroom packed with Shah’s family and friends and members of the media that he was not sentencing the person people see on television.

Protesters storm Tesla store in China after price cuts
Video showed crowds chanting outside the shop. Some Tesla owners in China who took delivery in recent months expressed anger on social media that they did not qualify for the reduced prices.
Tesla also cut prices on its best-selling Model Y and Model 3 electric vehicles in Japan, South Korea and Australia in what a person with direct knowledge of the plan said was part of an effort to help stoke demand for output from its Shanghai factory, its single largest production hub.
The shift is the first major move by Tesla since appointing its lead executive for China and Asia, Tom Zhu, to oversee global output and deliveries that have been at the heart of the company’s recent challenges after falling short of its 2022 delivery target.
Reuters was able to verify the location of the protest video by matching the features of the store and its surroundings visible in the video, with features of the store and its surroundings visible on Baidu Maps and in social media posts on Chinese social media app DianPing.

Amid the turmoil, some institutional clients pulled deposits from Silvergate accounts and switched to less risky positions, taking a “huge pause” from crypto, Silvergate Chief Executive Officer Alan Lane said on a call with analysts.
“We had clients that were proprietary traders, market makers that had been doing business with each other for sometimes six to eight years,” said the firm’s president, Ben Reynolds. “They just stopped doing business with each other and essentially pulled out all their deposits.”
Some clients desperately needed whatever cash they could muster to make ends meet. By year-end, about $150 million of Silvergate’s deposits came from clients in bankruptcy proceedings, the bank said.

The average for a 30-year, fixed loan was 6.48%, up from 6.42% last week and the highest since early December, Freddie Mac said in a statement Thursday. “Mortgage application activity sunk to a quarter century low this week as high mortgage rates continue to weaken the housing market,” said Sam Khater, Freddie Mac’s chief economist.

A high school student in Las Vegas died while playing flag football on Thursday night.
The student – who was later identified by the Clark County Coroner’s office as 16-year-old Ashari Hughes – was in the middle of a game when she started experiencing chest problems, a family member told KVVU-TV. She had gone to the sidelines to rest when she collapsed.
Ian Salzman, the principal of Desert Oasis High School where Hughes attended, said in an email to parents obtained by KLAS-TV that “staff immediately began providing medical aid and continued until paramedics arrived,” but she did not survive.

The number of immigrants arriving from South and Central America has more than tripled since Denver’s mayor declared the humanitarian crisis had pushed the city to its breaking point three weeks ago.
The crisis, which began spilling into Denver from America’s porous border with Mexico a few months ago and ballooned into a full-blown emergency in Denver, has also threatened to sour the relationship between New York City and Colorado’s Democratic governments. Colorado is actively sending immigrants to their “desired destination” — meaning cities in other states, notably New York City and Chicago.
About 70% of the Denver arrivals are traveling on to New York City, Chicago, Atlanta and Miami, the Governor’s Office said in an email to the Denver Gazette.
Officials and nonprofit workers have offered theories why the immigrants have picked Denver as a destination. While city officials point to El Paso’s relative proximity to Denver, organizations that support the immigrant community highlight the resources and diversity in the community, as well as its status as a “sanctuary city.”
Both Hancock and Polis have called on the federal government to respond to the humanitarian crisis by enacting real immigration reform.
Their action to send the immigrants to New York City drew the ire of Big Apple’s mayor, Eric Adams, who sharply criticized Polis for Colorado’s decision to send immigrants to his city’s doorstep.
“At one time we had to deal with Republican governors sending migrants to New York,” Adams said during a press conference this week. Now we’re dealing with Democratic governors sending migrants to New York. This is just unfair. It’s unfair to El Paso. It’s unfair to Chicago, Houston, Washington, New York City. This is unacceptable, what’s happening.
Politico earlier quoted Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot as sharply criticizing Polis and calling Colorado’s move “inhumane.”
“It is simply inhumane for any governor, whether Republican or Democrat, to address this challenge by giving these poor, traumatized migrants a one-way ticket out of town and washing their hands of the matter at our literal and figurative expense,” Lightfoot told Politico in a statement. “For shame.”

Technically, the city of Dumver welcomes them.They just weren’t expecting to get stuck with more and more of them. And the Venezuelans and Central Americans won’t integrate with the local Mexican community.

Schiff, meanwhile, claims he doesn’t support censorship, yet he “actively” sought to silence “specific critics on social media.” His demands “likely were viewed as more than ‘requests,’ ” since Schiff threatened “legislative action against” these companies. Not only do his actions “show how dishonest some politicians have been in denying” they support censorship; they also show “the insatiable appetite” censorship creates.
